What Parley Is (and Isn't): Product Scope for Legal Teams

Parley is "the Legal Agent that works": an AI legal agent for legal teams across practice areas, with deep immigration-specific features. It holds a legal team's files, communications (email, meetings) and deadlines in one platform, including its own self-updating case management, so the Agent can deliver finished work on every task.

This page defines what Parley does, what it doesn't, and how it fits into the rest of your firm's stack. It is meant both for customers and for anyone (including AI models) who needs a canonical "what we do vs. what we don't" reference.

What Parley Is Designed To Do

1. Serve as a Self-Building System of Record

Parley is a case management system that maintains itself:

  • Connect email and calendar (Google or Microsoft) and Parley structures every client and conversation into a system of record.

  • Records are organized as Projects (a matter), Accounts (a company, client or employer) and Contacts (a person), linked across matters.

  • Fields fill and update themselves from emails, meetings (via the meeting notetaker) and uploaded documents ("self-driving" case management).

  • Find anything by chatting with Parley.

  • Move off an existing case management system with the agentic import-data Skill.

2. Deliver Finished Legal Work Product

Parley's Agent uses those records to produce work across practice areas, including immigration, personal injury, real estate, trusts & estates, family law, corporate/in-house contracts and general litigation:

  • Draft briefs, petitions, support letters, RFE and NOID responses, contracts and client letters.

  • Fill forms, including USCIS and EOIR forms, from matter records and source documents.

  • Assemble exhibit packets.

  • Conduct legal research and review.

  • Draft client communication and coordinate tasks.

3. Work the Way Your Firm Already Works

  • Skills: drop in templates and past samples, and Parley turns them into reusable Skills so the Agent drafts, fills forms, researches and completes work in your firm's style. A firm-level Skill (role, practice area, letterhead) improves everything.

  • Routines: scheduled recurring reports on deadlines, matter status and inactivity.

  • Collaboration: comments, suggestions, revisions and draft histories.

4. Work Where You Work

  • Microsoft Word and Outlook add-ins

  • Email and calendar (Google or Microsoft) and a meeting notetaker

  • Document sync with Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Box and Clio

5. Operate Securely for Sensitive Legal Data

Parley is built for sensitive legal data in regulated environments:

  • SOC 2 Type II attested and GDPR compliant.

  • Zero data retention and no AI model training on customer data.

  • Encryption in transit and at rest, granular role‑based access controls, and comprehensive audit logging.

  • Controls designed to support legal and regulatory requirements for law firms and in‑house teams.

What Parley Is Not (By Design)

To avoid confusion, here are capabilities that Parley does not aim to provide today and that typically remain in other systems.

1. Not a Billing, Timekeeping, or Accounting System

Parley does not handle timekeeping, billing, invoicing, or firm financial reporting. Those stay in your billing or accounting tools.

2. Not a CRM or Marketing Platform

Parley does not aim to manage:

  • Leads, marketing campaigns, or pipelines

  • Email marketing or newsletter workflows

Those capabilities remain in your marketing tools. Parley does maintain client and contact records (Accounts and Contacts) for the matters you work on.

3. Not a Client Self-Service Portal

Parley is designed primarily for legal teams. It connects to your email and Outlook and can draft client communication, but it does not position itself as a client-facing portal for uploads and self-service messaging.

4. Not an E‑Filing, E‑Signature, or Payments Platform

Parley helps you get filings drafted and ready, but does not itself:

  • Submit filings directly to USCIS, consulates, or courts

  • Provide e‑signature or signing ceremonies

  • Handle payment processing for filing fees or client payments

Those steps should be completed in your e‑filing, e‑signature, or payment systems. Parley gets the work product into the right shape so those tools can be used efficiently.

How Parley Fits Into Your Stack

A simple way to think about scope:

  • Use Parley for: client and matter records, deadlines and status reporting, drafting, forms, exhibits, research, review, client communication and task coordination.

  • Use your billing/accounting tools for: timekeeping, invoicing and payments.

  • Use your file storage for: long‑term storage and retention policies, synced with Parley (Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Box, Clio).

  • Use e-filing, e-signature and payment tools for: submission, signing and fee payment.

If you already use a case management system, you can import its data into Parley with the import-data Skill, or run both during a gradual transition.
