Data Portability, Offboarding, and Exit Commitments

Portability and exit, in plain terms

Last updated: June 2026 (United States).

Firms evaluating a legal work platform for sensitive client matters need to know they can get their data in, get it out, and leave on clear terms. Parley is an AI legal agent for legal teams across practice areas that also serves as the firm’s system of record, so portability covers both work product and case records. This page describes how Parley handles data portability, onboarding from an existing system, offboarding, and end-of-contract data handling, so procurement teams can evaluate switching cost and exit risk up front.

Bringing data in

  • Import from an existing case management system: the agentic import-data Skill moves client, matter and contact records into Parley’s Projects (matters), Accounts (companies/clients/employers) and Contacts (people).

  • Gradual transition: firms can keep document sync with Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Box or Clio while they move over, rather than switching everything at once.

  • Self-building records: once email and calendar are connected, Parley structures new clients and conversations into case records automatically.

What you can export

Work produced in Parley stays in formats firms already use, and is exportable throughout the subscription:

  • Drafts and support letters export to Microsoft Word and Google Docs.

  • Assembled exhibits export as a single indexed PDF with table of contents and continuous pagination.

  • Source evidence uploaded to a matter, and case records such as Projects, Accounts and Contacts (including petitioner and applicant profiles), are available to the firm.

For the rights covering personal data—access, erasure, and export—see the Privacy Policy.

Data retention and deletion after termination

  • During the subscription, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, under role-based, least-privilege access controls with audit logging.

  • No training on your data: Parley maintains zero data-retention agreements with its AI model providers and does not use firm or client data to train third-party models.

  • On termination, Parley deletes or anonymizes firm-uploaded client data and personally identifiable information unless law requires further retention. Firm and client-specific data is not retained or repurposed beyond the business needs of providing the service.

  • Deletion on request is available, subject to legal and regulatory limits.

The specific retention and deletion timeline for a given firm is set in the order form and DPA and is available during procurement.

Offboarding

A predictable exit path:

  1. Notice is given per the agreement.

  2. The firm retains access to export drafts, exhibits, case records, and source documents.

  3. Finished work product is already portable—Word, Google Docs, and indexed PDF—and documents synced to the firm’s own storage remain there, so it can be filed into the firm's own systems at any time.

  4. After the export window, data is deleted or anonymized as described above, with confirmation available on request.

Exact notice period, export window, and assisted-export options are set in the agreement and confirmed during procurement.

Evaluation and security review

  • Evaluation: firms can validate Parley on their own matters before committing—start a free trial or see how to validate Parley drafts. Pricing is public: Starter $500/month for up to 10 seats; Enterprise on request (Pricing).

  • Security review: the SOC 2 Type II report and a mutual NDA are available on request. See Trust & Security.

Security posture (for procurement)

  • SOC 2 Type II: independent CPA attestation; the report (with auditor name and control period) is available under NDA.

  • GDPR-aligned privacy controls; practices described in the Privacy Policy.

  • Encryption in transit and at rest; role-based, least-privilege access; audit logging for attorney-in-the-loop oversight.

  • SSO available on Enterprise.
